The re-starting of the school year and the vaccination process became focus of attention in the weekly meeting of the Temporary Working Group against Covid-19

With a review done by the First Secretary of the Communist Party in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar on incidents reported by the people on several issues of negative impact on the community, the meeting of the GTT for the fight against Covid-19 began in Havana where the epidemiological situation of this Monday September 20th was evaluated.

Among the main concerns received are the people who suffered from the disease and are waiting to be vaccinated with Soberana Plus, the conditions to maintain the recovery of those who were not yet vaccinated with the vaccine candidate Abdala because they are allergic to Tiomersal.

The population also continues to be concerned about the crowd in queues of the stores of the Caribe, CIMEX and Caracol chain stores where basic and high demand products are sold, the amount of people travelling in public transportation in violation of the sanitary provisions in force, the increase of the illegal sale of medicines, the sale of food, agricultural products, cigarettes at overpriced prices.

Dr. Nilda Roca Menéndez, deputy general director of the Dirección Provincial de Salud (Provincial Health Directorate) explained that 86.5% of people have been vaccinated and the program for the pediatric population´s vaccination is progressing according to the schedule of the Ministry of Public Health.

The specialist informed that the beginning of the vaccination for people allergic to Tiomersal has been postponed until September 27th.

During the meeting, the provincial health director, Dr. Emilio Delgado Iznaga informed that last Monday, 10 237 samples were studied of which 485 were positive for Covid 19 for a 4.7% of positivity.

On the other hand, Master of Sciences Yolanda Falcón Suárez, provincial director of Education informed at the meeting, headed by the governor of Havana, Luis Reinaldo García Zapata that October 4th was the date proposed for the restart of the 2020-2021

school year for the terminal grades (12th grade of pre-university students, third year of technical and professional school´s students and third and fourth year of teachers training school´s students).

The restart of the school year will be possible to these group of students because by this date they will have already received their three doses of the vaccine and they will be able to assume the increased content in their curricular grades.

Falcón Suaréz detailed that the school period for 12th grade students will run from October 4th to January 28th next year, lasting 16 weeks, 13 of them dedicated to the treatment of the content and a second period from January 31st to February 26th for the intensive preparation in view of the entrance exams to Higher Education, which will take place from February 28th to March 11th, 2022.

During this stage, teaching activities will be broadcast on television for all three grades, including didactic materials for Natural Sciences and preparation for university entrance in the subjects of Mathematics, Spanish and History.

Yoania Falcón pointed out that 12th grade students of the Instituto Preuniversitario Vocacional de Ciencias Exactas (IPVC Vladimir Ilich Lenin), will be incorporated to their educational center and added that, as an exception, during this school year 2020-2021 the condition of loss of requirements will not be applied.

In the tenth week of the school year, the application of the Provincial Knowledge Contest will be carried out, while three weeks will be used for the final, revaluation and extraordinary evaluations, using one week for each process.
