Predicaments on the power sector caused affectations to the supply of power in the west and east of the country

The Unión Eléctrica informed that, after yesterday night power shortage, at 04:50 a.m. the unit 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez was synchronized.

The SEN availability is of 1832 MW and the demand 2077 MW, with 187 MW affected.

For today´s morning it is estimated a maximum affectation of 409 MW, with an estimation for the peak hour of a 2423 MW available and a maximum demand of 2700 which leads to a deficit of 277 MW.

Yesterday, during the peak hours, the maximum damage was of 409 MW at 21:35, 164 MW over what was planned due to that the maximum demand overrated in 170 MW the prognostic.
At 22:50 a failure in one of the 220 KV transmission lines happened in the line that connects Nuevitas with Holguín.

This situation caused a frequency oscillation in the system and in the outlets of operation of the generator units of the Thermoelectric Centrals Lidio Ramón Pérez in Felton, Holguín and Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba, and the Power Central of Fuel Oil in Moa.

As a consequence, it was totally affected the power service in the provinces of Holguín, Gramma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo and partially in the rest of the provinces thanks to the automatic low frequency(DAF) protection due.

After midnight, sub-stations and lines were given power through 110KV till get to CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez and the Power Plant of Fuel Oil in Moa which allowed to start engines in this facility and the later providing of power of the sub-station of CTE Antonio Maceo in Santiago de Cuba plus the synchronization of the engines of the Moa and the unit 2 of the CTE Lidio Ramón Pérez as well as the rest of the facilities of the power distribution and therefore, the restoring of what was failing at 6:20 a.m.in the provinces of Holguín, Gramma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo.
