The Office of the Historian of the City creates a new web site to disseminate its work

A new digital portal of the Office of the Historian of the City (OHCH) was presented at Habana Espacios Creativos this September 7th afternoon. It is a concentrator of text, articles and news where all entities linked to the institution converge, without renouncing their particularities, but still following Eusebio Leal’s premise: to be an institution with a diverse but at the same time unified media system.

This was made known by Marta Resik, Head of Communication of the OHCH, referred to that while recalling the convinced will of the Historian of Havana that in order to achieve that a process of integral rehabilitation of historic center was on track, received a receptivity from the resident population and this became an active , participatory and accompanying element of the process, it was important and necessary to have its own communication methods that allow the policies around the restoration management to be evident that the citizenship will help build the process. That is why the office has a system of traditional media, such as our radio station, which is more mediatic, well-known and traditional, and a system of a non-traditional media in which we must take leverage of the Internet as a platform to establish a communicative policy, said Magda, who asserted that we have to place the Office on virtual platforms with the same elegance, lucidity and with the solid message that has characterized us in the other media.

This new information hub involves all OHCH institutions that have great communicative and social strength in their actions, in addition to other actors, so that this support keeps the Office in permanent dialogue with the world.

This was expressed by Marta Resik who recalled the inheritance received by Eusebio Leal from his predecessor, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, who also used all possible communicative platforms of his time, effort that was followed by the second Historian of the City who knew the way of better positioning the image of the OHCH and to establish an endurable relationship with citizenship.

“This deepen the idea that we have to be consequent with time and to become speakers of what happens in our historic centers today…”

This is not about restoring a city to be behold as a landscape of a frozen past, is about restoring them to live in, to be inhabited, because they most have a contemporary use, claimed the Director of Communication of the OHCH.

This digital portal arises under the greatest technological protection, said the Director of the Information Technology of the OHCH because it is a support that has been created with the utmost rigor, security and protection. It is undoubtedly a collaborative tool, which works in an integrated and at the same time independent way, since each department of the OHCH has its own profile within the platform.

According to Guerra, all kinds of projects can be promoted, reusing and multiplying information, with services oriented to the population and all with a common design, visual structure and content, elements that have characterized the institution for years.

The contemporary refunctionalization of cities implies that we must not remain on the sidelines of new technologies, said Madga, who recognized that this portal follows the path of the Proyecto de Coperación Internacional “Ciudades Inteligentes”(International Cooperation Project “Smart Cities”) which are urban spaces in which people are the center of their development, making use of information and communication technologies to optimize urban management, promote efficiency in collaborative planning processes and citizen participation and guaranteeing  the well-being of their residents and visitors.
