Surviving should be the priority during this time of pandemic, stated this week the Cuban songwriter Silvio Rodríguez in Las 40 ,a radio program from the Argentinean radio station AM750 where he presented “Acerca de los Padres” a song created back in 1972 and recorded in 1991 with the latin jazz bad Diakkara

“Everything done in this direction is the right thing to do”, he commented while valuing that after more than a year and a half there is a wider vision about the virus, although the new strains make the situation even more complex.

In regards with the international panorama he expressed: It all would be different if we spend more money on health instead of massive destruction weapons. I wish we learn from it and start spending more money in healing instead of killing.

“Curious and amazing” was the evaluation he made about the fact that there is a population’s sector in wealthy countries that refuses to be vaccinated while in non-developed nations many people cannot be vaccinated even when they want it.

Cuba challenges Covid-19 outbreak even the blockade restrictions

The songwriter commented about the impact of the blockade in regards with the fight against the outbreak: “Our scientists have had to work with few chemical substances and reactive, due to we have to purchase them in different places through intermediaries which not only delay the work abut also slacken the production. 

The singer shared that cultural events are suspended in Cuba due to the pandemic and commented the complexities caused by more than 60 years of the existence of the unilateral and aggressive policy of United States to the island, hardened with the more than 240 new measures taken during the Trump’s administration.

“It is unbelievable that the blockade’s aim is to asphyxiate the people of up to such level that they get to generate hatred about the revolutionary government”, pointed out the radio station.

About Joe Biden’s administration, he claimed that the American president have left intact all measures taken by his predecessor, Donald Trump, but also added that the new president has deepen them. He also commented about the difficulties Cuban people face when applying to visas for travelling to the U.S. and the regulations against the family monetary help.

Silvio commented about the Cuban president Miguel Díaz Canel and his leadership: “The president is aware of the new stage opened during his presidency which creates a new commitment people-government and vice versa. For the first time historical leaders of the Revolution do not stand in the first line.

He said that he observes a president that is constantly in motion, listening to people from different subjects of knowledge and reported the increase of attacks against Cuba since Diaz- Canel assumed the presidency.

The singer highlighted the nexus between Cuba and Argentina: “There have been Argentinean presence in Cuba, since I am aware of, mostly through music and movies. When Argentina is mentioned in Cuba, you obviously think of Gardel, Hugo de Carril, Tango music and the Argentinean movies of the 30’s and the 40’s. For Cubans, the Argentinean culture is part of the Great Homeland. After that, the presence of Che Guevara Commander got us closer to this country, said the artist who stated that the governments of Cristina and Néstor helped in the strengthening of this bounds.
