School year will initiate on September 6th

Up to this next September 6th, the school year will be reinitiated in Cuba 2020-2021, through activities programmed and broadcasted on TV. The content of the lessons will be informed by the end of this week so that the families and students will be aware of this information.

The news was shared with a group of journalists in this Monday afternoon from the Palacio de la Revolución, provided by the Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, who also announced that ¨it is been taken in consideration, in a joint work with the Health Ministry that, the students will be restated at school in-person lessons once they all have been vaccinated.

We are aware that Cuban family is really concerned about the beginning of the school year 2020-2021. For that reason, this Monday afternoon took place a meeting at the Revolution´s Palace with the attendance of members of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, headed by the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz- Canel Bermúdez and the Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.

The aim of the meeting was to guarantee the health at all levels of teaching in the country, both teachers and students while keeping the high quality of the teaching process. In regard with the Higher Education level, its director José Ramón Saborido alluded to the importance of a joint work between the Universities along the country and the authorities of the Cuban Party and the Government to assure the necessary conditions to re-start the school course. In that sense, September and October will be months in which the transition from non-pressencial lessons to in – person attendance to schools will take place.

The Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez, detailed once the meeting concluded that the students´ vaccination has been organized in three groups: the first group will embrace students from twelfth grade, third and fourth year of teacher training students and third year of technological schools.

A second group considers students from 12 to 18 years of age. There will be tenth and eleventh grade students and the rest of teachers training schools´ students, technological schools´ students and high school learners. We have also taken into account, in accordance with the Health Ministry to include sixth grade scholars in this group during the vaccination process.

A third group will include primary school students from kindergarten to fifth grade.

The Minister declared to journalists that a Mesa Redonda TV program is scheduled this Wednesday in order to inform and detail this information.
