Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, in a press conference, at the end of yesterday, August 24th, stated that, 8637 new positive cases were confirmed for a total of 611 163.

To date, 4806 deaths by coronavirus (96 belong to the day) have been reported, and 50 930 active cases of which 50 461(99.0%) with a stable clinical evolution; a total of 7892 (belonging to the day) patients were discharged from hospitals for a total of 555 370 medical or epidemiological discharges. There are 145 critical patients and 324 in critical status.

Of the amount of patients diagnosed, 943 belong to the capital, of them 942 are native and 1 imported. We regret 5 casualties by Coronavirus in the capital: La Lisa(2 deaths), Diez de Octubre,Centro Habana and Arroyo Naranjo( 1 death each municipality).

Dr. Durán informed that in the last 15 days, a decrease in the incidence rate per 100 000 inhabitants to a 750.4%has been reported, placing the capital in thirtieth position in the country. 

The most affected municipalities in Habana were La Lisa(92), Boyeros and Arroyo Naranjo (91), Habana del Este(76),  Diez de Octubre(67), Playa(61), Habana Vieja and Centro Habana (53),Guanabacoa(50),Marianao(48),Cerro and Cotorro(46), San Miguel del Padrón (38), Regla( 25) and Plaza de la Revolución(24).

50 543 test were studied for Covid- 19, with a result of 8637 positive samples whether with PCR or by antigen. The country accumulates 7 634 180 analyzed samples of which 611 163(8.0%) were positive.

Most of the tested samples run were from the capital and a positivity rate of 7, 2% was registered, parameter that places Havana in the fiftieth position of the chart. A decrease in this parameter has been registered in the last few days but it still remain high. 

8582(99.7%) cases were contacts of confirmed cases, accumulating an amount of 599 907(98.1%), 31(0.4%) with source of infection abroad for a total of 10 962(1.8%); 24 of them (0.3%) have an unknown source of infection.

There were 8606 native cases this Tuesday and 31 were imported of which 4694(54.3%) female and 3943(45.7%) male cases.

This Tuesday the amount of asymptomatic cases decreased to a 3.8 %( 1), for a total of 115 561 which represents 19.2% of the confirmed cases to date. According to this indicator, he pointed out that the trend to the decrease evidences the severity of the clinic chart presented by the new strains, since symptoms appear from the beginning of the disease.

Of the 9548 confirmed cases, 1901 were under 20 years of age; 2331 between 20 and 39; 2581 between 40 and 59 and 1824, over 60.

The death rate for Covid 19 in Cuba, in August 24th, 2021 is 0.78% per million inhabitants which is lower than the 2.09% for the world and the 2.52 % for the Americas region.
