Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, in a press conference, at the end of yesterday, August 18th, stated that, 8972 new positive cases were confirmed for a total of 554 247.

To date, 4319 deaths by coronavirus (75 belong to the day) have been reported, and 45 272(542+) confirmed cases of which 44 786(98.9%) with a stable clinical evolution; a total of 8351(belonging to the day) patients were discharged from hospitals for a total of 504 599(91%) medical or epidemiological discharges. There are 134 critical patients and 352 in critical status.

Of the amount of patients diagnosed, 958 belong to the capital, of them 956 are native and 2 imported. We regret 6 casualties by Coronavirus this Wednesday in the capital: Boyeros (3 deaths), La Lisa, Diez de Octubre and Cerro (1 death each municipality).

The most affected municipalities in Habana were Arroyo Naranjo(114),  Boyeros(111),  Diez de Octubre, La Lisa and Marianao(91 each), Playa(80), Guanabacoa(65), Habana del Este(59),Centro Habana(58), Habana Vieja(43),Cotorro and San Miguel del Padrón(36 each), Plaza de la Revolución (34),Cerro(28)and Regla, 21.

48 651 test were studied for Covid- 19, with a result of 8972 positive samples whether with PCR or by antigen. The country accumulates 7 338 692 analyzed samples of which 554 247(7.6%) were positive.

Most of the tested samples run (27.2%) were from the capital; with a positivity rate of 7.2, placing the capital in the 15th place of the chart.

8931(99.5%) cases were contacts of confirmed cases, accumulating an amount of 543 250(98%) confirmed cases. 12(0.1%) of the cases have its source of infection abroad for a total of 10 788 and 29(0.3%) of them have an unknown source of infection.

There were diagnosed 8960 native cases this Wednesday and 12 were imported of which 4751(53%) female and 4221(47%) male cases.

This Wednesday the amount of asymptomatic cases decreased to a 3.7 %( 339 of the 8972 positive cases), for a total of 113 659 which represents 20.5% of the confirmed cases to date. According to this indicator, he pointed out that the trend to the decrease evidences the severity of the clinic chart presented by the new strains, since symptoms appear from the beginning of the disease.

Of the 8972 confirmed cases, 1752 were under 20 years of age; 2570 between 20 and 39; 2858 between 40 and 59 and 1792, over 60.

The death rate for Covid 19 in Cuba, in August 18th, 2021 is 0.78 % per million inhabitants which is lower than the 2.1% for the world and the 2.54 % for the Americas region.
