Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, in a press conference, at the end of yesterday, August 12th, stated that, 8312 new positive cases were confirmed for a total of 500 216.

To date, 3842 deaths by coronavirus (85 belong to the day) have been reported, and 44 031 confirmed cases of which 43 558(98.9%) with a stable clinical evolution; a total of 8267(belonging to the day) patients were discharged from hospitals for a total of 452 286(90.4%) medical or epidemiological discharges. There are 161 critical patients and 312 in critical status.

Of the amount of patients diagnosed, 1321 belong to the capital, of them 1319 are native and 2 imported. We regret 8 casualties by Coronavirus this Thursday in the capital: Diez de Octubre(2), Centro Habana, Plaza de la Revolución, Cerro, La Lisa, Arroyo Naranjo and Boyeros( 1 death each municipality).

Francisco Durán informed that, in the last 15 days, the incidence rate per 100 thousands inhabitants has increased to 1138.3%; for that reason the capital stands on the seventh position of the chart. That’s why he called the attention on the strict comply of the protection measures and social isolation because of the still high transmission which is spread in all its territories.

The most affected municipalities in Habana were Boyeros(189),  Centro Habana(124),  Playa(119),Diez de Octubre(109), La Lisa(105), Habana Vieja(101),Habana del Este(85), Plaza de la Revolución(77),Marianao(68), Cotorro and Guanabacoa(53 each), San Miguel del Padrón(50), Cerro(30) and Regla, 23.

45 581 test were studied for Covid- 19, with a result of 8132 positive samples whether with PCR or by antigen. The country accumulates 7 063 808 analyzed samples of which 500 216(7.1%) were positive.

32.3 %( 14 745) of the tested samples run are from the capital; a positivity of a 9% was registered placing Havana in the fortieth place of the chart in the country. According to Duran’s statement, in the last few days a lowering in this parameter is appreciated but it is still high.

8325(99.07%) cases were contacts of confirmed cases for a total of 489 250(97.8%) confirmed ones. 34(0.4%) of the cases have its source of infection abroad and 43(0.51%) of them have an unknown source of infection.

There were diagnosed 8278 native cases this Thursday and 34 were imported of which 4452(53.6%) female and 3860(46.4%) male cases.

This Thursday the amount of asymptomatic cases increased to a 4.3%(360), for a total of 111368 which represents 22.3% of the confirmed cases to date. According to this indicator, he pointed out that the trend to the decrease evidences the severity of the clinic chart presented by the new strains, since symptoms appear from the beginning of the disease.

Of the 8312 confirmed cases, 1626 were under 20 years of age; 2348 between 20 and 39; 2730 between 40 and 59 and 1608, over 60.

The death rate for Covid 19 in Cuba, in August 12th, 2021 is 0.76 % per million inhabitants which is lower than the 2.11% for the world and the 2.56 % for the Americas region.
