Cuba informs first data of effectiveness of the vaccination against the Covid 19

Eduardo Martínez Díaz, president of the Grupo de las Industrias Biotecnologica y Farmacéutica( Group of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnological Industries) informed that the partial results of the anti-Covid -19 vaccination effectiveness in the country are encouraging in the protection against the severe systemic illness and the death, in spite of the presence of the Delta strain of the SARS COV -2

The directive  said to the Informative System of the Cuban Television that up to August 10th , around 2 900 000 people have received the three doses of the immunogenic, 2 5000 000 have already concluded the 14 days period after getting shot with the last dose, for which they can be considered immunized. 

When referring to these last figures, he said that 21 000 of them were infected with Covid -19, which represents 0.8%, while 99 died, which represents 0.003%. 

Regla, Guanabacoa, Havana del Este and San Miguel del Padrón were the first municipalities that concluded the sanitary intervention with Abdala and it has been proven a great impact in the effectiveness of the process. 

Martínez Díaz points out that the Pharmaceutical Industry delivered to the Health System more than 14 million doses of the vaccine and soon the amount of 20 000 000 doses will be achieved, massively produced since May and it is anticipated that from August to September the necessary figures to vaccinate the whole population will be reached. 

Currently, more data is being processed in order to determine the vaccination effectiveness that differs of the clinical essays effectiveness, which is evaluated in a controlled atmosphere and different exclusion approaches are taken in consideration.
