Thetater, beyong the stage

Theater has reached WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, Google Meet and other platforms that has been accessed, “searching for data with the same passion with which one searches for the dream fabric for making a costume”, says Isabel Cristina López Hamze, a theater expert and professor at Instituto Superior de Arte(ISA).

The eagerness not to let theater die in times of pandemic inspires the defenders of this artistic expression who have used more than one tool to keep alive their work.

“Theater has reached WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, Google Meet and other platforms that has been accessed, searching for data with the same passion with which one searches for the dream fabric for making a costume”, says Isabel Cristina López Hamze, assured the specialist.

On the other hand, the theater has remained close to the acting groups though taught via WhatsApp. Likewise, discussions have been held among the professors of the Department of Teatrology and Dramaturgy, who “try every day to bring the students closer to the theater, despite the distances”.

Teatro de las Estaciones have maintained their presentations from television and social networks.

Research has not stopped either, as López Hamze explains, that by using telephone they have participated in international events and have given conferences, workshops and courses.

We have put ourselves, Cuban theater artists, on a par with the rest of the world. Managing, creating and innovating, as we do with shows and face-to-face events, the theatrical artist pointed out.

López Hamze made a special mention to the guild of theater for children and puppets, in this case alluding to the example of Rubén Darío Salazar and Teatro de las Estaciones, who do not get tired, do not give up, do not resign themselves to silence and emptiness.

Teatro La Proa is one of the national references in the puppetry technique.

Even in the most complex circumstances, the flame of love and hope has been present in every Facebook post.

At this point it is worth mentioning the experience lived by young creators of the Chair of Teatro de la Casa of the Culture House Rita Montaner in Guanabacoa, who have projected attractive and dynamic spaces posted on Facebook for the Cuban families.

Thanks to the ardor for the theater we have enjoyed many experiences, say staged through different formats.

Much remains to be done to keep the art of stage alive in times of isolation, but theater lovers and defenders have shown that with love everything can be achieved.
