Manuel Hilario Galbán Torralbas dies in Havana.

Cuban musician known as the guitarist and musical director of the famous vocal group Los Zafiros, also as director of the group Batey, member of the Vieja Trova Santiaguera, and finally, guitarist of the Buena Vista Social Club orchestra. As a guitarist he combined the speed passages in the high notes with the chords, at the same time that he made an adequate use of the bass, with which one had the sensation of listening to an orchestra.

Los Zafiros

It was a Cuban musical group created in 1962. Its members were four singers and an accompanying guitarist. Their music was integrated by different modalities, among others, ballad, Calypso, Bossa Nova and rock.  Los Zafiros. Cuban vocal harmony group created in 1962. It was part of what was known in Cuba as the filin or (feeling) movement and its music was constituted from a fusion of Cuban rhythms such as Bolero with Doo-wop, Ballads, Calypso, Bossa nova and Rock.  Los Zafiros emerged in the midst of a proliferation of vocal groups. Their first recording was made in December 1963.  They achieved great popularity both in Cuba and internationally. In August 1965, together with other well-known national artists, they toured several countries in part of Europe, with the Cuban Music Hall. The tour lasted four months.
