Throughout his fruitful life he stood out as an eminent writer, orator and diplomat of consistent revolutionary trajectory, witness and protagonist of relevant events of our history, he had the exceptional privilege of occupying vanguard roles in the frustrated popular insurrection of 1933 and the defense and consolidation of the triumphant Revolution in 1959. For his valuable work at the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he showed exceptional qualities as a man of ideas and action. He was awarded the honorable title of Chancellor of Dignity.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

It was established on December 23, 1959 by Decree of the Revolutionary Government. It replaced the Ministry of State, an agency created in the early 20th century.

He was thus qualified for his attitude in the defense of Cuba before the General Assembly of the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS), where he fought with the force of his vibrant words and a very special way of reflecting concepts as well as denouncing the aggressions that were being carried out against the Cuban Revolution. He began to be identified as Chancellor of Dignity when he participated in August 1960 in San José, Costa Rica, in an OAS assembly. On that occasion, after exposing forceful denunciations against the aggressive actions that were being forged against Cuba within that organization, manipulated by the United States, he announced his withdrawal from the meeting and emphasized: "I am leaving with my people and with my people the peoples of our America are also leaving".
