A total of 319 new COVID-19 cases are identified in Havana of the 1489 confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, June 21st, 1 489 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 170 854.

To date, 1 180 deceased were reported (10 within the day), 1 181 patients were discharged (within the day), 8 662 (298+) were confirmed, of which 8 506 have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 160 956 (94.2%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 62 patients in a critical state and 94 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 319 belong to the capital, of which 305 are autochthonous and 14 are imported. The highest amount of PCR tests was done in this province 18%, and the positivity decreased 12.2%, thus moving to the 4th position in the country. In Havana, 46 of the total of 236 pediatric cases identified in the country.

Francisco Durán said that even when there is a tendency to the progressive decrease of cases in the capital, the transmission continues to be high and very disperse in all of its municipalities. A rate of 263.8% was recorded per every 100 000 inhabitants, which represents a tendency to the decrease in cases, locating it in the second position.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Playa (42), Arroyo Naranjo (35), Diez de Octubre (34), Lisa and Guanabacoa (25 each), Boyeros (24), Marianao (20), Centro Habana (18), Regla, Plaza de la Revolución and San Miguel del Padrón (17 each), Habana del Este (16), Cotorro (14), Cerro (13), and Habana Vieja (9).

Durán informed that only the municipality of Regla in Havana, having a 360.3% is the 12 with the highest of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the last 15 days.  

For the COVID-19, 27 126 samples were analyzed, and 1 489 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 780 371 samples analyzed, and 170 854 of these were positive (3.57%).

1 376 (92.4%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 162 165 (94.9%); 43 (2.9%) being infected abroad, for a total of 8 189 (4.8%); and 70 (4.7%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Saturday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 446, and 43 were imported. A total of 801, and 688 were male.

A total of 33 930 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 7 337 are under suspicion, 17 931 are under surveillance, and 8 662 (5.1%) have been confirmed, of which 8 506 (98.2%) have a stable clinical course, and there are 160 956 (94.2%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged.

The 34% of the 1 489 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 81 242, which represents the 47.6% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 489 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 265 below the age of 20 years old; 467 between 20 and 39 years old; 492 between 40 and 59 years old, and 265 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until June 21st, is 0.69% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.16%) and the one of the American continent (2.62%).
