Havana presents 399 of the 1 185 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, June 6th, 1 185 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 150 103.

To date, 1025 deceased were reported (13 within the day), 1 156 patients were discharged (within the day), 5 917 were confirmed, of which 5 744 (97.1%) have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 143 105 (95.3%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 58 patients in a critical state and 115 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 399 belong to the capital, of which 398 are autochthonous and 1 is imported. The province reported 3 deceased, and 75 of the 109 active events on the country. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate every 100 000 inhabitants of 334.9%, the highest in the country in the last 15 days. Also, 4 of the 8 pediatric cases under the age of six months identified yesterday belong to Havana. The amount of PCR tests done yesterday were 7178, which represents the 34.2% of the total, and showed a positivity of 5.6%, which locates the province in the 8th position in the country.     

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Centro Habana (54), Boyeros (41), Marianao (36), Arroyo Naranjo and San Miguel del Padrón (30 each), Habana del Este and Guanabacoa (25 each), Diez de Octubre (24), Playa (23), Cotorro (21), Cerro, Plaza de la Revolución and La Lisa (20 each), Habana Vieja (19), and Regla (11).

Durán informed that 9 municipalities in Havana are among the 12 with the highest incidence rate in the country, with a 31.7 incidence rate due to COVID-19 in the last 15 days. These are: Regla, Marianao, Centro Habana, Habana Vieja, San Miguel del Padrón, Lisa, Boyeros, Guanabacoa and Cerro.

For the COVID-19, 20 346 samples were analyzed, and 1 185 were positive. The country has had a total of 4 484 454 samples analyzed, and 150 103 of these were positive (3.34%).

1 107 (93.4%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 142 208; 34 (2.8%) being infected abroad, for a total of (8.9%), and 44 (3.7%) had an undefined source of infection.

This Sunday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 051, and 34 were imported. A total of 596 (48%) of these were female and 616 (52%) were male.

A total of 26 036 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 3 773 are under suspicion, 16 346 are under surveillance, and 5 917 (3.9%) have been confirmed, of which 5 744 (97.1%) have a stable clinical course.

The 46.4% (550) of the 1 185 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 73 032, which represents the 48.7% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 185 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 194 below the age of 20 years old; 391 between 20 and 39 years old; 410 between 40 and 59 years old, and 190 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until June 6th, is 0.68% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.15%) and the one of the American continent (2.61%).
