He was a professor of the De Witt Clinton High School in New York, United States for several years. He goes back to Cuba in 1904 and works as a language teacher at the High School Institute of Havana until he dies. He created the Annual Fine Arts Hall that is opened on February 25th, 1916. He also founded the Association of Cuban Painters and Sculptors that could hold for ten years. He organized annual halls that were always social and artistic events.

It was created in Havana in 1916 and was the most relevant contribution from the generation of the 19th century to the one of the 20th century.  It was to model and renew the field of culture regarding the visual arts. He implicated the people involved in the artistic creation, education, exhibition, marketing, critics and collecting .Non avant-gardism modernization as well as the first feelings of avant –garde coincide in his Halls.
