In Havana, 674 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed out of the 1 207 new positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, May 11th, 1 207 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 119 375.

To date, 768 deceased were reported (13 within the day), 1 136 patients were discharged (within the day), 6 090 were confirmed, of which 5 955 have a clinically stable course, and we arrive to 112 461 people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 44 patients in a critical state and 91 in a serious one.

Of those diagnosed, 674 belong to the capital, 663 of these were autochthonous and 11 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which in the country during the last 15 days.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: San Miguel del Padrón (73), Arroyo Naranjo (70), Boyeros (67), Guanabacoa (62), Marianao (54), Diez de Octubre (52), Centro Habana (50), Lisa (41), Habana del Este and Cerro (40 each), Cotorro (37), Playa (35), Habana Vieja (22), Plaza de la Revolución (17), and Regla (14).

Durán informed that 12 of the 15 municipalities in Havana contain the 53.6% of the COVID-19 incidence rate in the country, in the last 15 days. These are: Cerro, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, Boyeros, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, Marianao, San Miguel del Padrón, Cotorro y La Lisa.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Artemisa (34), Holguín (61), Sancti Spíritus and Matanzas (54 each), Mayabeque (53), Santiago de Cuba (51), Camagüey (47), Pinar del Río (46), Granma (38), Cienfuegos (21), Ciego de Ávila (18), Villa Clara (13), and Guantánamo (3).

For the COVID-19, 20 417 samples were analyzed, and 1 071 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 879 606 samples analyzed, and 119 375 of these were positive.

1097 (90%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, 84 being infected abroad, and 26 with an undetermined source of infection

This Tuesday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1 123, and 84 were imported. A total of 595 of these were female and 612 were male.

A total of 23 235 patients are kept under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, of which 3 493 are under suspicion, 13 652 are under surveillance, and 6 090 have been confirmed, of which 5 955 have a clinically stable course.

The 49.5% (512) of the 1 207 positive cases where asymptomatic, for a total of 59 088, which represents the 49.5% of the confirmed cases to date.  

The 1 207 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 167 below the age of 20 years old; 440 between 20 and 39 years old; 412 between 40 and 59 years old, and 188 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until May 10th, is 0.64% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.08%) and the one of the American continent (2.43%).
