The Renaissance May musical season returns

The Renaissance May season of concerts is organized by the Ars Longa Ancient Music Ensemble, as part of the cultural program of the Historian’s Office. This concerts will start from May 21st to 31st, and will be available virtually on this band’s Facebook and Instagram profiles (@conjuntoarslonga).

The event is part of the mission that this band (which is the leader of the Cuban Movement of Ancient Music) has in relation to the research, study, historicist interpretation, recording and promotion of the Ibero-American and European musical heritage, having an emphasis on Cuban colonial heritage. This was said on exclusive releases to Habana Radio by Yunie Gainza Desdin, Ars Longa’s countertenor and researcher.

The internet users can enjoy daily –said Gainza- of images, historically documented information, and diverse audiovisual content that includes Ars Longa’s performances, led by Teresa Paz. These are oriented to the presentation of renaissance instruments like minstrels, recorders, viola da gamba, and the historicist interpretations of repertoires conceived for every intrument’s format. This includes the listening of typical sacred and secular music genres of the Renaissance like motets, madrigals, and instrumental dances, all of this by the creative genius of composers like Maddalena Casulana (1544-1590), Clément Janequin (1485-1558), Adriano Banchieri (1568-1634), among others.

Some of the interpretations to be highlighted are those by the Vocal Luna Ensemble, directed by the soprano and conductor Marible Nodarse, also including other bands of the Cuban Movement of Ancient Music like Lauda Ensemble, and the band Ars Nova from Santa Clara, directed by Henry Vidal and Angélica María Solemou, respectively.

“In this opportunity, the event has the honor of counting with the special performance of the Guatemalan band Prosodia, directed by the renowned master and historicist musicologist Omar Morales Abril”, concluded Yunie Gainza.

Renaissance May returns for the amusement and rescue of the musical patrimony of this period; but also to promote the work of new talents interested in ancient music.
