The capital has 570 of the 1 029 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, April 2nd, 1 029 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 78 382.

To date, 431 deceased were reported (two within the day), 4 806 (6.1 %) were confirmed, of which 4 725 (98.3%) have a clinically stable course, 738 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 73 089 (93.2%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 32 patients in a critical state and 49 in a serious one.

As it is usual, the largest amount of PCR tests were done in the capital, which was a total of 7 975 representing a 38%, and resulting in 570 confirmed cases (56 more than the day before), all of them were autochthonous. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 333.4%.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: San Miguel del Padrón (68), Centro Habana (61), Arroyo Naranjo (60), Lisa (46), Habana Vieja and Habana del Este (42 each), Boyeros (41), Diez de Octubre (37), Guanabacoa (36), Marianao (35), Cerro (33), Playa and Plaza de la Revolución (25 each), Regla (12), and Cotorro (7).

Eleven of the municipalities in Havana are among the twelve where the 49.9% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. The most affected municipalities in havana are: Habana Vieja, Regla, San Miguel del Padrón, Centro Habana, Cerro, Habana del Este, Cotorro, Diez de Octubre, Arroyo Naranjo, Guanabacoa, y La Lisa.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Matanzas (100), Santiago de Cuba (80), Sancti Spíritus (58), Granma (43), Mayabeque (27), Pinar del Río (20), Cienfuegos and Guantánamo (18 cada una), Villa Clara (17), Camagüey (16), Ciego de Ávila (9), Las Tunas (8), and the Isle of Youth (4).

For the COVID-19, 20 974 samples were analyzed, and 1029 were positive. The country has had a total of 3 046 901 samples analyzed, and 78 382 of these were positive.

1030 (95.6%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 71 565 since the beginning of the pandemic which represents the 92.5%; 10 (0.9%) being infected abroad, for another total of 5076 (6.6%); and 37 (3.4%) with undefined source of infection.

This Friday’s autochthonous cases were a total 1019, and 10 were imported. A total of 525 (51%) of these were female and 504 (49%) were male.

A total of 26 034 patients are still hospitalized under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 3 975 are suspected cases, 17 253 are under surveillance, and 4 806 (6.1%) have been confirmed, of which 4 725 (98.3%) have a stable clinical course.

The 46.6% (480) of the 1 029 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 40 656, which represents the 51.9% of all the confirmed cases to date.

The 1 029 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 159 below the age of 20 years old; 308 between 20 and 39 years old; 358 between 40 and 59 years old, and 204 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until April 2nd, is 0.54% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.18%) and the one of the American continent (2.41%).

Until April 2nd, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 130 626 537 confirmed cases (+ 652 078) with 22 633 223 active cases, and 2 845 607 deceased (+ 11 312) for a fatality rate of 2.18 (=).

In the American continent, 57 283 199 cases were reported (+ 203 292), which is a 43.85% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 229 976 active and 1 379 005 deceased (+ 5 765) for a fatality rate of 2.41 (=).
