Havana has 447 of the 816 new COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in Cuba

The doctor Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Public Health, informed in a press conference that by the end of yesterday, March 24th, 816 cases were confirmed as positive to COVID-19, for a total 68 802.

To date, 408 deceased were reported (three within the day), 3 334 (4.8%) were confirmed, of which 3 270 (98.1%) have a clinically stable course, 827 patients were discharged, and we arrive to 66 044 (94.5%) people medically and epidemiologically discharged. There are 23 patients in a critical state and 41 in a serious one.

As usual, the largest amount of PCR tests were done in the capital: 8 784 which is the 44.3%, resulting in 447 confirmed cases, of which 444 were autochthonous and 3 were imported. Due to the increase in the case amount, the presence, dispersion, and rising tendency in all municipalities, the province will continue to be in the epidemiological phase know as Limited Local Transmission Stage, also having the highest incidence rate which is 294.7%, being lower than the one of the day before.

The most affected municipalities in the capital were: Diez de Octubre (58), Centro Habana (50), Boyeros (45), Arrollo Naranjo (43), Habana Vieja (39), Cerro (38), Playa (28), Habana del Este (24), La Lisa (23), San Miguel del Padrón (21), Marianao (20), Regla (18), Guanabacoa and Plaza de la Revolución (15 each).

Eleven of these municipalities are among the twelve where the 43.4% of the COVID-19 incidence has been located in the last 15 days. These territories are: Regla, Habana Vieja, Centro Habana, San Miguel del Padrón, Cerro, Diez de Octubre Arroyo, Naranjo Habana del Este, Guanabacoa, Marianao and Cotorro.

The other confirmed cases belong to other provinces like: Granma (100), Santiago de Cuba (56), Camagüey (54), Pinar del Río (41), Artemisa (22), Holguín (20), Guantánamo (14), Ciego de Ávila and Las Tunas (12 each), Villa Clara and the Isle of Youth (9 each), Matanzas (7), Cienfuegos (5), and Mayabeque (2).

For the COVID-19, 19 812 samples were analyzed, and 816 were positive. The country has had a total of 863 281 samples analyzed, and 69 802 of these were positive (2.44%).

782 (95.8%) out of the total of confirmed cases were contacts of other confirmed ones, for a total of 64 339, which represents a 92.1%; 8 (0.9%) of these were infected abroad for another total of 4 997 (7.2%), and 26 were infected by an undetermined source.

This Tuesday’s autochthonous cases were a total 808, and 8 were imported. A total of 431 (54.2%) of these were female and 385 (45.8%) were male.

A total of 20 573 patients are still hospitalized under clinical and epidemiological surveillance, 3 818 are suspected cases, 13 421 are under surveillance, and 3 334 (4.8%) have been confirmed, of which 3 270 (98.1%) have a stable clinical course.

The 49.1% (401) of the 816 positive cases were asymptomatic, for a total of 36 697, which represents the 52.6% of all the confirmed cases to date.

The 816 diagnosed belong to the following age groups: 121 below the age of 20 years old; 238 between 20 and 39 years old; 324 between 40 and 59 years old, and 133 above 60 years old. 

COVID-19 fatality rate in Cuba, until March 24th, is 0.58% per one million inhabitants, lower than that of the whole world (2.20%) and the one of the American continent (2.40%).

Havana: 447 cases

Diez de Octubre: 58 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Arroyo Naranjo: 43 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Boyeros: 45 (44 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported)

Centro Habana: 50 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Cerro: 38 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Cotorro: 10 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Guanabacoa: 15 (14 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported)

Habana del Este: 24 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Habana Vieja: 39 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

La Lisa: 23 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Marianao: 20 (19 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 had an undefined source of infection)

Playa: 28 (42 were contacts of confirmed cases and 4 were imported)

Plaza de la Revolución: 15 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

Regla: 18 (all contacts of confirmed cases)

San Miguel del Padrón: 21 (20 were contacts of confirmed cases and 1 was imported)

Until March 24th, it is confirmed that 190 countries and 29 territories present COVID-19 cases. There is a total of 125 143 789 confirmed cases (+ 530 555) with 21 345 647 active cases, and 2 751 075 deceased (+ 10 513) for a fatality rate of 2.20 (=).

In the American continent, 55 459 855 cases were reported (+ 204 001), which is a 44.31% of the total amount of cases confirmed worldwide, with 9 211 522 active and 1 330 780 deceased (+ 5 632) for a fatality rate of 2.40 (=).
