It was founded on January 5, 1728 by Dominican friars belonging to the Order of Preachers.  It was identified with the name of Real y Pontificia Universidad de San Gerónimo. It is the oldest university in Cuba and also one of the first in America. It was initially located in the area of Old Havana, in the area between Obispo, Monserrate, O'Reilly and San Ignacio streets, where the convent of Santo Domingo once stood and where the San Geronimo University College is currently located, a faculty attached to the University of Havana that offers a degree in Preservation and Management of Historical and Cultural Heritage.

 

It is the magazine of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and one of the first publications founded after the revolutionary triumph in 1959. In this publication Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara published experiences of the insurrectional struggle, which later became the book Passages of the Revolutionary War. Che also wrote for the magazine the section Advice to the Combatant and a column signed with the pseudonym The Sniper.

He was born in Havana on June 5, 1929. He grew up in a very humble social environment. He was an actor, theater director and pedagogue, founder of the Teatro Estudio. He is considered one of the essential creators of the Cuban theatrical avant-garde. To his creative work we owe many anthological stagings of the island's stage. He passed away in Havana at the age of 82 on January 10, 2012.
