 He was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on July 30, 1563. In 1592 he took up residence in Cuba. In 1608 he wrote the first work of Cuban literature, his epic poem Espejo de Paciencia. It was written in Sicilian octaves and published fully for the first time in the second edition of the Cuban Bibliography of the 17th and 18th centuries. The poem narrates the kidnapping of Bishop Cabezas de Altamirano by corsairs.

For 48 years, it brought together the country's naturalists and encouraged the presentation of works and the holding of debates on mineralogy, geology, botany, zoology, anthropology, paleontology, agronomy and their applications. His Memoirs, published between 1915 and 1961, are very important. It ceased to exist in the latter year. Then its functions were transferred to the Felipe Poey Museum of Natural History created by the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

It was founded in 1940 by Dr. Luis F. Rodríguez Molina. At the beginning, it grouped a number of urological surgeons graduated from the University of Havana who practiced Urology in Cuba. After the triumph of the Revolution, the few neurologists who did not leave the country marked a new stage in the development of this association and the specialty.

 

 

It was created in Havana on October 20, 1995 by the initiative of a group of outstanding Martianos in order to develop activities aimed at promoting the dissemination of the life and work of the Apostle of Independence and National Hero of Cuba. It has its national headquarters on 17th Street corner D, in Vedado, Plaza municipality, Havana. Its founding President was Dr. Armando Hart Dávalos who held that responsibility until his death on November 26, 2017, and currently the President of the Society is Dr. Eduardo Torres Cuevas, who is also General Director of the Office of the Martiano Program. The Society awards the following recognitions: "La Utilidad de la Virtud", "Honrar, honra" and "Periódico Patria."
