It flows along 13 kilometers and rises in the limits of the municipality of San Miguel Del Padrón with the municipality of Cotorro. Its course flows to the northwest and comes out onto the Bay of Havana.

He was born in the town of Melena del Sur, then province of Havana, on August 13, 1937. He came from a working class family. From an early age, along with other comrades, he joined the 26th of July Movement in his native town. As a revolutionary fighter he stood out in the clandestine struggle from 1952 to 1958. He was 21 years old when he was assassinated by the Batista dictatorship in the neighborhood of La Vibora in Havana on November 8, 1958.

 

He was born on March 3oth, 1919 and was an outstanding Indian politician. He died at the age of 97, on July 4th, 2016 in Bombay, India.

 

 

He was an outstanding composer and guitarist who was born on March 1st, 1885 in Santiago de Cuba. He had a vast, large and varied work as he composed in nearly all popular genres. He devoted his life to support the Cuban music, that is the reason why he is considered one of the fourth pillars of the Trova Tradicional Cubana together with Alberto Villalón, Manuel Corona and Sindo Garay. Rosendo Ruiz Suárez died in Havana on January 1st , 1983, at the age of 97 years.

His real name was Félix Rubén García Sarmiento. He was born in Nicaragua on January 18, 1867. He was a poet, journalist and diplomat, the maximum representative of literary modernism in the Spanish language. He had a lasting influence on the poetry of the twentieth century. Eroticism became the center of his poetic creation. He died in León, Nicaragua, on February 6, 1916.

Villena was an oustanding poet and revolutionary fighter. He affirmed in one of his works that we needed a charge to kill rascals, to conclude the work of the revolutions and as such he dedicated his short,  but fruitful life to make a significant contribution to people´s fight for their real liberation.  He was  also one of the main participants in the so- called Protesta de los 13  in Havana  on March 18, 1923.  From 1928, he stopped writing verses and started to  write revolutionary  prose which he wrote for several publications.  Later, he got sick of tuberculosis.  He had an outstanding  participation in the destruction of Machado´s dictatorship in August, 1933. A few months later, he was hospitalized in  Sanatorio La Esperanza where he died on January 16, 1934.

It was the name of the current municipality Juan Gualberto Gómez corresponding to the province of Matanzas. Its territory covers an area of 129 square kilometers.
